If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say ‘I'm just waiting for …' When it comes to delaying family photos, here are six of the most common reasons I hear, and why you should ignore them and do it anyway ...

"I need to lose weight" – I hear this a lot, but this is how your kids see you every day. To them, you're FUN mum that gives great cuddles. They need to see you in the photos, just as you are.
"We need to finish the kitchen" – I get it, I've been there, but the thing about renovations is that they're never done. Sure, you might finish the kitchen, but then what? The bedroom? The yard? The pool? The kids don't care what the house looks like, they just care about the fun that can be had there. Maybe it's running in the sprinkler or baking cookies in the unfinished kitchen. If you need some ideas on what activities to do for your in-home family session, take a peek at my list of 78 kid-approved ideas.
"We're waiting for our kid to sit/walk/smile or for life to get easier" – newsflash, they don't get easier, just different. As cliche as it sounds, they are only little for such a short time. Capture it, bottle it up so you can remember every little detail. You'll be glad you did.
"We're waiting for our forever home" – but here's the thing, life is happening right now. The in-between chapters are important too, so that one day you can look back on the 'good old days' and see how far you've come. It's not about having the perfect everything, see reason 2.
"My partner isn't keen/doesn't like having their photo taken" – this is another one that pops up fairly regularly. The beauty of documentary style is that you really are just hanging out and having fun together. It's less about the manufactured moments and more about your connection. My 'A Day in the Life' sessions capture this beautifully, it's just you doing your thing and me tagging along. If your partner really isn't keen, you could always book a 'Weekday Mini' session.
"We can't afford it right now" – I hear you, I do. The cost of living feels crazy right now, but I offer options to pre-pay sessions, so you could book for later in the year and pay in instalments. My 'Weekday Mini' session is great for those who just need a few updated family snaps, or the other option is to rally some family members or friends who are also in need of some snaps and book an 'Extended Family Session' to split the costs. That way, each of the groups can have their own little mini session within the larger group booking. I've also restructured my packages to be all-inclusive, so you don't have to worry about choosing which shots to keep, you get them all! Take a look at my new pricing guide.
They are only this little right now. Next year will be totally different again, time is a thief like that. Book the session, get in the photos and remember this chapter together. Let's chat.
